Social campaign in Costa Rica

Finca de la caja, a kindergarten in Costa Rica was in a very bad shape. The dining area, where the children had their snacks and meals, had water leaking from the roof. The walls were moldy, and the paint was peeling off. The window was broken and almost non-existent.

For this, we needed the help of committed local people. Johan helped us fix the wall. Franklin made the window, and Jesus, a committed teacher and director, opened the gates for us in the mornings and gave us concerts in the evenings.

The children in the school were asked to use their imagination to draw how they perceived the world. The children drew pictures of clouds, trees, flowers, octopuses, birds, fishes, giraffes, cows, and a magical lion-dandelion. The children were not yet told about the transformation of the wall using their artwork.

Our team then got to work to create the mural using the children’s artwork. When the children and the teachers saw the finished mural, they were overjoyed. The children touched and felt their illustrations which were on the wall. They now want to spend more time in the dining area. The visually impressive mural has brought a sense of belonging, reaffirmation, identification, pride, joy, and love in the hearts of the children for their kindergarten.

We decided to transform this place for the children, and the staff by giving it a new look and feel using visual arts. We believe that school murals can change the mood of a classroom, improving the learning environment, and the well-being of children.
