Soil-health Enrichment and Yield Improvement
Manohar Reddy is a man with a mission. During the visit to his hometown in 2012, he noticed the poor conditions of the infrastructure within the village. This pushed him to take a decision to improve it. His intermittent trips to his parental home gave him a fairly good idea of the local requirements. Manohar Reddy, along with a few like-minded people brainstormed and drafted the idea of village development. A plan was carefully laid down to raise awareness among the villagers and provide them with the much-needed facilities.
Vijayanand, a civil servant, mobilized funds from all available public schemes and Manohar Reddy contributed from his personal resources to provide the funds needed for this project. For a 13-kilometers stretch of village road, Manohar Reddy and his relatives contributed 60 lakh rupees while Vijayanand was instrumental in the release of 90 lakh rupees (GO 129) for the project. CC roads were built for connecting village interiors and gravel roads were constructed for connecting S. Uppalapadu with other surrounding villages.
Functional toilets, potable water, and electricity were made available in the Anganwadi centers, schools, health center, and Gram Panchayat building. The village is equipped with high-speed internet connectivity through cyber grid provided by the Andhra Pradesh government. The local leaders were invited to launch the new programs, giving them a sense of inclusiveness in the programs. This has helped them become ambassadors with shared responsibility for this mission.
Homes were constructed, for every resident, with access to toilet, safe drinking water, and uninterrupted power supply. About 380 toilets were built for individual households.
